Congratulations to Kelly Purser, Bridget Lewis, Andrew McGee and Kylie Pappalardo. Kelly, Bridget and Andrew have been promoted to Professor, and Kylie has been promoted to Associate Professor. This recognition is a testament to their academic contributions and leadership at QUT.

About Professor Kelly Purser

Kelly PurserKelly Purser joined the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2011. She is an active member of the Australian Centre for Health Law Research, and co-established and co-leads the Planning for Healthy Ageing Program.

Kelly has both published and presented nationally and internationally. Her research monographs, Capacity Assessment and the Law: Problems and Solutions (2017) and The Human Rights of Older Persons: A Human Rights-Based Approach to Elder Law (2020, co-authored with Bridget Lewis and Kirsty Mackie), explore novel issues in relation to capacity assessment best practice and the application of a human rights framework to elder law respectively. Her work has been referenced by bodies such as the Law Reform Committee of the Parliament of Victoria, the Australian Law Reform Commission, and the Law Council of Australia.

About Professor Bridget Lewis

Bridget LewisBridget Lewis is an expert in human rights whose work explores the protection of human rights in various contexts. Bridget is an internationally recognised scholar in the field of environmental human rights, which aims to transform the legal relationship between the environment and human rights. Her work in this area focuses on environmental rights and climate change, with a particular emphasis on protecting the rights of future generations and ensuring intergenerational justice. Bridget’s book, Environmental Human Rights and Climate Change: Current Status and Future Prospects (2018), offers a multi-faceted critical consideration of the feasibility and justifiability of a right to a healthy environment within international human rights law. Bridget’s new book, Environmental Rights for Future Generations (2025), will be available soon.

About Professor Andrew McGee

Andrew McGeeAndrew McGee is a Professor in the School of Law and is an active member of the Australian Centre for Health Law Research. Before joining QUT, Dr McGee completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in philosophy at University College Dublin in 2001 and then worked as a lawyer for Allens Arthur Robinson and for the Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Counsel, Brisbane.

Andrew has published articles in leading international medical law and ethics journals on palliative care, withholding and withdrawing life-prolonging measures and euthanasia, organ donation, and the ethics of abortion. Andrew’s latest book, Intuitively Rational: How We Think and How We Should (2024, co-authored with Charles Foster), explores the respective roles of intuition and reasoning in ethics.

About Associate Professor Kylie Pappalardo

Kylie Pappalardo is a leading researcher in intellectual property law, especially the intersections between copyright, culture and creativity. She studies how automation, digital distribution, and intellectual property laws shape the reach and diversity of our culture. Her work seeks to develop and inform law, public policy and industry norms that prioritise marginalised voices and diverse perspectives in the production and distribution of content.

Kylie is an Associate Professor in the Law School at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), a Chief Investigator with the Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC), and was an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Research (DECRA) Fellow.
