Our laboratory

We are part of the Institute for Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) at QUT, and offer research, postgraduate training and consultancy in air quality and its impact on human health. Our focus is on:

  • comprehensive characterisation of indoor and outdoor air, including emission sources
  • integrated health and environmental risk assessments
  • strategies for controlling and managing air pollutants.

As air pollution is a complex research area, our academics are drawn from a number of disciplines, including:

  • physics
  • chemistry
  • microbiology
  • mathematics
  • public health
  • engineering.

Our scientific program is internationally recognised and researchers contribute to a high number of reputable journals, conferences and initiatives. In Australia, both the Federal, and Queensland State government regularly seek our expertise.

In March 2004, we were awarded the status of a Collaborating Centre of the World Health Organization on Research and Training in the field of Global Burden of Disease Due to Air Pollution.
