Celebrating Our Centre Retreat: A Day of Learning, Connection, and Adventure!

On Friday, July 26, 2024, the Centre for Microbiome Research came together for a memorable retreat at Cedar Creek Lodge, nestled in the serene beauty of Mount Tamborine. This retreat, thoughtfully organised by our dedicated team members Maddy Yule and Suzanne McCusker (a huge thank you to both!), offered us a perfect blend of professional insight and team-building fun.

A Morning of Inspiration

Our day began with an enriching morning session where we had the pleasure of hearing about the career trajectories of our lab heads. Each story shared was a testament to the passion and dedication that drives our team forward in the field of microbiome research. It was inspiring to learn about the varied paths that brought our experts to where they are today, and the advice and “lessons learned” provided valuable insights for all of us. We also got to play some team-building games! Good fun was had by all!

A Culinary Delight

Following our morning sessions, we were treated to a delightful lunch at the lodge. The meal was a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues, share ideas in a more informal setting, and enjoy some well-deserved downtime. The beautiful surroundings of Cedar Creek Lodge made our lunch not only delicious but also a feast for the eyes. We enjoyed the sounds of the creek while we chatted.

Adventure in the Trees

After lunch, the excitement continued with the highly anticipated Tree Top Challenge. This thrilling activity allowed us to step out of our comfort zones and experience the lush environment of Mount Tamborine from a new perspective. Climbing, zip-lining, and traversing the treetop obstacles was both exhilarating and a wonderful way to foster teamwork and camaraderie.

Cherishing the Memories

The retreat was more than just a day away from the lab; it was an opportunity to strengthen the bonds within our team, gain fresh perspectives, and enjoy the beauty of nature. The photos and memories from this day will undoubtedly be enjoyed as we continue to collaborate and innovate in our research.

Once again, a heartfelt thank you to Maddy Yule and Suzanne McCusker for their impeccable organisation and dedication to making this retreat a success. Your efforts truly made this event special for everyone involved.

Here’s to many more moments of learning, connection, and adventure in the future!
