Mr Shashank K. Bhandary is a higher degree research student who joined the Contact Lens and Visual Optics Laboratory at QUT in July 2023. He previously worked in L.V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India as a clinical research optometrist and was involved in various clinical trials and studies into age-related macular degeneration and myopia. Previously, He has also previously conducted research into ambient light and myopia risk. He also had the opportunity to mentor some of the myopia projects in the lab and was part of the planning committee for the first Indian myopia and research committee.
He completed his BSc in Optometry from Lotus College of Optometry, Juhu, Mumbai and a postgraduation in MPhil Optometry (Contact lens) from Elite School of Optometry, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. His current PhD research in CLVOL will investigate objective measures that will identify prevention strategies for myopia during near work.
