Ramya Natarajan graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Optometry from the Vasan Institute of Ophthalmology and Research, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India in 2017. Following her graduation, she commenced her career as a Consultant Optometrist in a private eye hospital. She obtained her Postgraduate Diploma in Optometry and Vision Sciences (PGDOVS) fellowship in Optometry from L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India, in 2020.

From 2020 to January 2025, Ramya was employed as a Research Associate at Ophthalmic Biophysics Laboratory, L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India. During her tenure, she actively engaged in collaborative research projects focusing on the optics of in vitro Human Crystalline lens and Intraocular lenses. She has also involved in several clinical and public eye health research studies, resulting in peer-reviewed publications and recognition, including the Association of Research in Vision Science and Ophthalmology (ARVO) International Travel Grant in 2023.

In February 2025, Ramya commenced her doctoral research degree with QUT’s Contact Lens and Visual Optics Laboratory in Brisbane, Australia under the supervision of Dr Rohan Hughes (Principal Supervisor), along with Dr Emily Woodman and Dr Andrew Carkeet (Associate Supervisors). Her research will focus on investigating the crystalline lens characteristics of myopic children.
