Mr Asif Iqbal graduated from George College of Management and Science, Kolkata, India in 2009 and holds a Master of Optometry, and a Diploma and Fellowship in Contact Lens Practice from The Sankara Nethralaya Academy. After two years working as a Consultant Optometrist with Alokon Eye Care, in Kolkata, India, Asif worked for a decade as a Senior Optometrist within a specialty Contact Lens Clinic in Sankara Nethralaya, involved in clinical care and corneal and ocular surface research alongside a team of optometrists and ophthalmologists.
At The Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital Asif was a coordinator for contact lens training, a Senior Lecturer and project leader to postgraduate students. In 2019, he accepted an Assistant Professor position teaching and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students at The Sankara Nethralaya Academy and Elite School of Optometry. He has successfully supervised seven Master of Optometry postgraduate students undertaking speciality contact lens research, presented scientific presentations at both national and international conferences, and published his research in peer-reviewed journals. His clinical expertise lies in specialty contact lens fitting for myopia control, the irregular cornea, and ocular surface disorders. He is a proud recipient of 2022 International Association of Contact Lens Educators Travel Award (international category).
In 2022, Asif commenced a full-time doctorate research degree at the Queensland University of Technology focusing on tear exchange during scleral lens wear under the supervision of Associate Professor Stephen Vincent.
