The QUT Contact lens and Visual Optics Laboratory (CLVOL) from Brisbane, Australia, was well-represented in Boston, with Professor Steve Vincent, Dr Luisa Holguin-Colorado, Dr Rohan Hughes, along with CLVOL HDR student, Asif Iqbal attending the 2025 American Academy of Optometry (AAO) Meeting. This year the meeting was held as a 4-day event, beginning on 8 October and concluding on 11 October.

Three oral talks, titled: ‘The influence of pupil size and accommodation on retinal image quality during 0.025% atropine use’ (presented by Dr Rohan Hughes), ‘Scleral lens landing zone toricity and tear exchange‘ (presented by Asif Iqbal), and ‘Scleral lens fenestrations and flui reservoir debris’ (presented by Prof Steve Vincent), were delivered to an enthusiastic audience of optometrists, ophthalmologists, vision researchers, and other scientists, across the four days of the meeting.

Two posters, titled: ‘The effect of limbal fenestrations on scleral lens induced central corneal oedema‘ (delivered by Prof Steve Vincent) and ‘The impact of astigmatic contact lens correction with Delefilcon A on functional vision and symptoms associated with prolonged digital device use’ (delivered by Dr Luisa Holguin-Colorado) were also presented as examples of exciting and pioneering optometry and vision research at the meeting.
