Jacob Stedman is currently undertaking a PhD in the Respiratory Virology Research Group at CIIC under the primary supervision of Professor Kirsten Spann.
Jacob’s PhD project is focusing on the identification of potential probiotics to treat upper respiratory illnesses using a pre-clinical nasal cell model and predictive mathematical modelling of bacterial sequences. This project is following on from his Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Honours)(2024) project where he successfully confirmed a nasal probiotic candidate benefits in reducing RSV induced inflammation in a pre-clinical human nasal cell model. Jacob’s research aims to improve the current methods for screening nasal probiotics using predictive modelling to improve the efficiency and efficacy of nasal probiotic screening.
