
Dr. Andrej Trampuz is a renowned specialist in infectious diseases, currently Professor for Device Related Infection Management at Queensland University of Technology and the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital (RBWH). He previously served as a Clinical Consultant and Head of the Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory at Charité – University Medicine in Berlin, Germany.
Dr. Trampuz received his MD degree from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia (1994), internal medicine board (1997) and infectious diseases board (2000).
Dr. Trampuz is known for his significant contributions to the field of implant-associated infections, including the development of the sonication procedure for diagnosing infections in removed implants during his postdoctoral research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. This method revolutionized the diagnosis of device-related infections worldwide. He has also been involved in establishing the European Prosthetic Joint Infection Cohort (EPJIC), which includes infected joint prostheses from over 100 institutions across Europe and other continents.
