CIIC Symposium celebrates the career of Professor Ken Beagley

The recent 2025 CIIC symposium celebrated the career of Professor Ken Beagley, CIIC Reproductive Infection and Immunity Research Group Leader, who will be retiring in early 2026.
Ken’s remarkable career and expertise spans mucosal and reproductive immunology, with a focus on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) particularly chlamydia in humans and wildlife. The impact of Ken’s research, notably the development of a Koala chlamydia vaccine will continue into the future. Ken’s leadership has also inspired countless students and colleagues over the years.
Thank you to the guest speakers, Professor Eileen McLaughlin, Executive Dean of Science at University of Wollongong, and Dr Michael Pyne, Head of Vet Science & Research at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, both of whom are long time research collaborators with Ken. Also thanks to CIIC researchers Dr Alison Carey, Associate Professor Elise Pelzer and Associate Professor Danica Hickey for their presentations.
