About

The QUT-Sealy Centre of Biomechanics and Sleep Research is a collaboration between QUT’s Biomechanics and Spine Research Group (BSRG) and the leading mattress manufacturer Sealy Australia. Sealy is dedicated to the development of enhanced assessment techniques, advanced simulation, and human data collection. The centre was established in July 2023 and it focuses on technologies to discover a new understanding of posture and sleep. Through the development of new knowledge and technologies in biomechanics, predictive modelling, and design for sleep surfaces, the centre will allow for key translations into industry.

With both QUT and Sealy Australia based in Brisbane, this allows for convenient intercommunication and partnership. This collaboration will enhance the relationship between researchers and industry partners. There will be excellent opportunities for staff, research fellows, and PhD students to spend time with Sealy to learn about the industry. This translational research environment would benefit anyone who is looking to develop novel and applied technologies. We are committed to supporting engineering students by offering honours projects and internship opportunities (WIL) as well as higher-degree research students and early career research development and training.
