Local Travel

Public transport is excellent, with an integrated bus, rail, and ferry network managed by TransLink. The ferries are particularly pleasant for exploring the city. There are a number of free bus services and free ferry services.

Smart Ticketing enables you to pay for travel on public transport with contactless Visa, Mastercard and American Express debit or credit cards using your card or any smart device you have linked to your card (such as your smartphone or smart watch). You can use contactless cards and devices to pay for adult fares on all South East Queensland trains (Queensland Rail and Airtrain), trams (G:link), and Brisbane River ferries. Contactless payment is being progressively rolled out on South East Queensland buses and will eventually be available for all modes of transport for both adult and concession fares throughout South East Queensland and on 18 regional bus services.

For paid services, you can use Visa, Mastercard and American Express debit or credit cards directly on ticket machines and access barriers where available, or you can purchase a Go Card. The Go Card deposit ($10 or $5 concession) can be refunded at the airport when you leave Brisbane.

From Monday 5 August for six months, all public transport will be 50 cents (standard rates apply prior to this date. This is a local government cost-of-living initiative). Find out more about fares, zones, and tickets.

Rideshare companies including Uber, Didi, and Shebah operate in Brisbane, in addition to classical taxis. Please check if your preferred rideshare company operates in Brisbane before you travel. Taxi services include Black and White Cabs Brisbane and 13Cabs.

Google Maps is very useful for planning public transport and estimating driving times in Brisbane.
