CAB research program:  Genetics and Molecular Biology

Juel Datta (he/him) is a second year PhD student in the Genetics and Molecular Biology Program.

Juel studied Agriculture (BSc) and Plant Pathology (MSc) at Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh. Juel worked as a research assistant in research project focused on developing rice varieties tolerant to major rice pests using a range of biotechnological approaches. Juel was interested in how editing at nucleotide level of a gene of interest can significantly contribute to phenotypic variations of a plant species, and this interest motivates him to pursue a PhD.

Currently Juel teams up with his supervisory members to investigate Citrus flowering using biotechnological tools, and to develop early flowering citrus varieties.

Juel enjoys traveling, cooking, and volunteering in his free time, as well as playing chess.
