Thesis title: Regulation of Flowering Genes in Citrus Principal Supervisor:Dr. Stephanie Kerr Expected final thesis submission date: Before 1 July 2025 CAB Research program:Genetics and Molecular Biology
Jose Teodoro J. Velasquez (Ted Velasquez) is a final year PhD candidate at QUT in the Genetics and Molecular Biology Program of the Centre. He earned his previous degree, Master of Science (BioSciences), at the University of Melbourne under Dr. Alexandre Fournier-Level, studying the transgenerational plasticity of flowering and other responses to warmer climates across multiple Arabidopsis thaliana accessions. Inspired by his previous research in A. thaliana, Ted became interested in Citrus flowering due to its complexity, along with how flowering is a seasonal phenomenon. This motivated Ted to pursue a PhD on the genetic regulation of flowering in Citrus under the supervision of Dr. Stephanie Kerr, Prof. Peter Prentis, and Dr. Leena Thung. It is hoped that Ted’s PhD will improve the understanding of flowering gene regulation in Citrus which could lead to improved management of Citrus farms to ensure consistent flowering.
