We are excited to share that Alex Terrill has been awarded an NHMRC postgraduate scholarship to support his PhD “Advanced Manufacturing Solutions to Create Personalised Offloading Treatment for People with Diabetes-Related Foot Ulceration (DFU)”.
DFU cause significant health and personal impacts for those affected and can be expensive to treat. Current devices are poorly accepted by people with DFU as they can be uncomfortable and interfere with lifestyle.
Alex’s research is applying 3D scanning and 3D printing to produce innovative personalised devices to offload and assist the healing of DFU. These new devices could be lighter, cooler, and more comfortable to wear, which could improve the healing of DFU.
Ultimately, the application of these technologies has significant potential to reduce the health burden of DFU on individuals and the financial burden upon health systems.
