Congratulations, Dr Naomi Paxton

The BTM team warmly congratulates Dr Naomi Paxton who has been awarded her PhD.

Naomi’s PhD focussed on biofabrication approaches to manufacturing personalised surgical implants. She worked closely with Anatomics (industry partner) and research collaborators at the University of Wollongong to 3D print surgical implants for bone tissue replacement. Over the course of her PhD, Naomi has published 6 Q1 papers, presented at 10 conferences, given 22 keynote/invited addresses, sat on 5 society/conference organising committees, and won 13 national and international awards, including a peer-reviewed New Investigator grant to support her research and being announced as QUT’s overall Student Leader of the Year.

Naomi was the national winner of the ATSE Ezio Rizzardo Polymer Scholarship, CSIRO Alumni Scholarship in Physics and awarded the QLD Women in Technology Life Science Young Achiever Award. Alongside her research, Naomi is an enthusiastic science communicator and STEM ambassador with the STEM for Schools (QUT) and Wonder of Science (UQ) programs. She was a national finalist in the AMP Amplify Ignite science pitching competition, as well as runner-up in the SEF 3 Minute Thesis competition. Naomi will be continuing her research at QUT, having already secured an Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowship commencing in late 2020.
