Congratulations to 2018 Final-Year Honours Students, Jordan Spoor and Benjamin Riley, for the successful completion of their project developing a customised Xbox controller.
The aim of this project was to build a modified Xbox controller for Elias who has cerebral palsy. Elias had saved up his money to buy an Xbox and games but unfortunately is prohibited from enjoying his favourite past-time due to restricted movements in both arms and hands. As part of a Final Year Engineering subject, Jordan Spoor and Benjamin Riley took on this challenge and created a controller tailored to Elias’ ability to manoeuvre the controller. As Elias has no dexterity in his left hand and a small amount in his right hand, he can only move the joystick left and right and requires help to control the forward and backward movements.
Elias can be seen in the photographs enjoying his car racing game for the first time, instead of watching his carer play!
