ACCTERM Research Forum 2017

This year, the Forum is hosted by one of ACCTERM’s partners – Nanjing Stomatological Hospital, Medical School of Nanjing University, located in the fascinating city of Nanjing, which is the capital city of Jiangsu Province and a city with prominent Chinese history and culture. Nanjing has served as the capital of China during several historical periods, and is listed as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. Local culture experiences like Qinhuai River Boat Tour is included in the Forum Program.

This Forum brings together leading biomaterial, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine scientists from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), University of Queensland, University of Sydney, RMIT University, Deakin University, University of Leeds and leading universities and research institutes in China to share emerging science, exchange ideas, strengthen collaborative links and develop innovative research project concepts. Chinese partners represented at the Forum include Nanjing University, Wuhan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics-Chinese Academy of Sciences, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Guangzhou Medical University, Soochow University, The Fourth Military Medical University, Peking University and other leading research Institutes/Universities, each of whom are leaders in specialist research areas in China.

The forum includes brief presentations by participating research leaders in the fields of stem cell therapy and bone regenerative medicine, advanced biomanufacturing, new biomaterials and biomedical application, and tissue engineering for dentistry and orthopaedics. There were four workshop discussions on new and existing collaborative projects, staff and student exchange opportunities and joint research funding applications. In addition, a poster presentation and competition is conducted on the second day of the Forum.

ACCTERM, established in 2013, draws together new and longstanding research collaborations in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine and aids in creating a highly visible hub for research collaboration and the attraction of competitive research funding in this field. The Centre brings together a cooperative network of prestigious leading research institutes and universities in Australia, China and other countries. The past year has witnessed exciting and fruitful collaborations between the ACCTERM partners with increased joint publications, staff exchanges, and the award of the ARC Training Centre grant. There is no doubt that this year ACCTERM will continue to provide opportunities for scientists to share their discoveries, expand their intellectual horizons and build valuable collaborations.
