This project will develop an integrated road safety and transport planning process to explicitly enable proactive safety planning and effective infrastructure investment. The goal is to develop an integrated framework, and software tools, to enable transport network design considering multiple objectives including the minimisation of crashes and severities. This involves determining effective infrastructure projects considering their safety impacts as well as their effect on travel behaviour, demand, and network flows. State-of-the art expected crash frequency and severity models can be developed and integrated throughout the various estimation levels within the transport planning process.
