Welcome to the Transport Engineering Group in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
We are dedicated to shaping the future of mobility through cutting-edge education, research, and innovation. By harnessing real-time multimodal traffic and transport data, advanced simulation and modelling tools, and state-of-the-art experimental and computing facilities, we co-design practical solutions with industry, government, and communities to deliver safer, more efficient, sustainable, and resilient transport systems.
Our core priorities include:
Educating and inspiring the next generation of transport professionals through innovative curriculum, lab-based learning, and engagement with real-world projects.
Driving innovation via data-driven and experimentally grounded research, creating decision-intelligence tools that support policy, planning, operations, and investment in contemporary and future transport systems.
Positioning QUT as a national and global leader in transport engineering, particularly in road safety, network operation, transport equity, and transport system.
Our multidisciplinary team leads research across a broad range of focus areas, including:
- Transport network modelling, simulation, and digital twins
- Transport planning, land use–transport interaction, and travel behaviour
- Road safety engineering and NextGen transport safety
- Public transport demand, service design, and operations
- Intelligent transport systems, connected mobility, and traffic management
- Traffic operations, control, and real-time performance monitoring
- Transport equity, accessibility, and inclusion
- Transport systems analysis, appraisal, and policy evaluation
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV)
- Resilient transport networks under congestion, incidents, and extreme weather events
The Transport Engineering Group currently involves more than 45 postgraduate and higher degree research students working alongside academics and partners to solve complex, real-world transport challenges—here in Queensland, across Australia, and globally.
