A story.
It puts a face on facts and figures. It connects others through shared experience. It makes visible the impact of evidence and it offers this evidence in a form that can be easily shared with others (McCormack, et al. 2016).
Welcome, storyteller. Let’s construct your own impact story.
Constructing an impact story is one way of building a professional identity and helps tell others about your actions in a meaningful way. An impact story is one of the most effective ways to communicate evidence of practice and can be shared with people like assessors or employers who seek authentic and visible effort, results or consequences of actions (Mohan & Chand, 2019; Fullan, 2009).
Telling Your Great Story of Impact is a resource designed for teachers, but can guide any professional seeking to translate professional actions into a coherent narrative of evidence. This resource will guide you through the process of constructing an impact story. It follows one professional, a Highly Accomplished teacher, as she selects, organises and creates her own professional story of impact for career development to be considered as a Lead teacher.
Filled with resources for immediate application, Telling Your Great Story of Impact provides an open, accessible and transferrable platform to help professionals discover their stories, develop their professional identities, and share them in a way that leaves an impact.

“After today, I have a vision for how to tie my evidence together within the greater narrative of my teaching practice. I am positioned to outline the evidence of impact and am inspired to ensure this narrative is articulated well.”
“This has been the best few hours… I was able to finally feel that I am going in the right direction and can see all sets coming together. The idea of a claim and warrant will make it so much clearer the impact I’ve had on colleagues and students.”
“By hearing somebody else talk through their evidence set I could more clearly see the impacts that my own evidence set has. I feel more confident in how to structure my annotations now and know how to better reflect back on what I have done.”
“What an impactful session! It was hugely empowering…the opportunity to listen to another teacher’s story was extremely beneficial.”
