Development of a 3D-Printed Gut-on-a-Chip Model

Jessica Marsh is a current masters student working within the Micro-Tissue Engineering laboratory. She is fascinated by infectious microorganisms and genetics, both of which she studied during her Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences degree from QUT. As a final year undergraduate student, Jess contributed to research discovering schistosomiasis epitopes for diagnostic use. Jess has a natural love of learning so the opportunity to engage with the engineering faculty and develop a new, unique skill set is what initially inspired her to pursue her masters project with the Micro-Tissue Engineering group. Through her masters project, Jess aims to improve preclinical outcomes for intestinal disease research through the development of a 3D-printed preclinical intestinal model. Specifically, 3D printing has the capacity to automate intestinal model production which is currently laborious and slow. Outside of the lab, Jess likes to unwind through reading, cooking, and crochet.
