Enterprise-wide BPM: BPM capability building in collaboration with Commonwealth Bank

BPM capability building with the Commonwealth Bank

Context

Continuously managing business processes is, globally, a high organisational priority. The necessity for organisation-wide process management approaches (as opposed to ad-hoc initiatives) is widely recognised. Yet, the required skills and capabilities for such enterprise-wide BPM is a well-known gap, with little resources to date to address this. Only a few organisations have experienced and mastered the journey of enterprise-wide BPM, and that too with large investments over years and some-degree of trial and error. Many organisations, and the BPM discipline as a whole, will benefit from the learnings obtained from these journeys, but such learnings are rare to find.

This collaborative project aimed to contribute to this very purpose. The organisational learnings of Commonwealth Bank’s BPM efforts were systematically collated, synthesised and shared with the global BPM community. The outcomes demonstrate the thought-leadership of the BPM practitioners, and a successful research-teaching nexus between Commonwealth Bank BPM practitioners and QUT’s BPM academics.
