This work was supported by our industry partner Hastings Deering.
Context
The focus of this project is to undertake a data governance gap analysis of Hasting Deering’s Data with a focus on data quality and accessibility, encompassing privacy, ethics, and security concerns with the aim of providing recommendations and pathways along with implementing solutions for improving how data are managed, protected, and automated. The project will investigate current data governance practices, policies and needs at Hastings Deering and identify areas of future research to generate value from available data.
The project aims to
- Establish data lifecycle and recognise high priority data entities
- Develop a data quality program
- Understand current data governance practices and provide ways and techniques to automate them

Project Outcomes
The anticipated benefits to Hastings Deering include access to cutting edge expertise in data science, indirectly upskill staff and creating value by reducing risk, saving money and increasing sales through data science insights. The research will benefit the data governance initiatives undertaken by Hasting Deering. It will help them understand their data lifecycle and prioritise data entities, which will assist them in prioritising data actions. A data quality program will be developed enabling them to report, measure, and manage data in a standard manner. Automated techniques will assist the organisation in preventing recurring mistakes and thereby time and resources.
