How do I access current project resources?
Resources for current YDC projects are only available to project participants through QUT Blackboard community sites. If your school is involved in a YDC project, please contact us to obtain a username and password using the contact form or the contact details on the right. If it isn’t, you are welcome to download our free resources from past projects or our teacher lesson plan resources.
What if I forget my QUT Blackboard login details?
If you’re having trouble logging in to the Blackboard site or you’ve forgotten your password, please contact us using the contact form or the contact details on the right. Once we confirm your involvement in a YDC project, we can organise the login details you need.
Do I need special software to open the resources?
You need Adobe Reader to open many of the resources on our website. Documents that require Adobe Reader to view end with the file extension pdf. If you don’t already have this software you can download it for free from Adobe.
Some of our resources are Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx) files. You will need Microsoft Office 2007 or above to open these files.
How do I join a YDC project?
Please consult our Partnerships and support page or check the information on our Projects pages to see if you are interested in the projects we currently offer. If you would like to develop a project specifically tailored for your situation, please contact us using the contact form or the contact details on the right.
How much does it cost to join a YDC project?
YDC projects can be tailored to suit your school’s needs. The cost of a project depends on whether you sign up for the basic YDM training or would like extras such as school visits. Check the Projects pages for more information or contact us to discuss your requirements.
Our school can’t afford to send teachers away for face-to-face training. Is online training available?
Online training support is provided for our major projects through QUT Blackboard community sites and we are currently developing new options for online training. However, we believe face-to-face training is the most powerful form of teacher professional development. Please check the YDM general pedagogy projects page for information about the online support provided.
What do YDC projects provide?
YDC projects provide the HOW of learning mathematics. Resource books and modules are included depending on the project – please see project descriptions on the Projects pages. We provide many ideas for activities, but not textbooks, worksheets or scripts.
What is involved in being part of a YDC research project?
Your institution or business forms a collaboration with YDC and joins with YDC staff to implement the aims of the project. In practice, you will sign an agreement with QUT, be asked to provide ethics consent and then asked to take part in activities. Normally these activities involve the following:
- attending professional development sessions and days, participating in hands-on workshops of how to teach mathematics, and receiving material from which you can develop lessons and, sometimes, pre-post tests to determine learning
- having a YDC staff member visiting you and working with you and your students, discussing problems, and planning what can be done in the future
- completing questionnaires or being interviewed about your teaching, keeping records of what you do and the students do, and being asked for feedback on the materials developed by YDC.
YDC follows a philosophy that you should benefit from the experience of working with us, in terms of ideas, support and materials.
Can you come to my school and run a tailored course for my staff?
We can work with you to design a professional learning session or program to suit the needs of your school or local cluster of schools, such as staff development days, after-school workshops or a single event. To find out more about how you can access individualised professional learning please contact us using the contact form or the contact details on the right.
