XR Screen Futures x World Science Festival Brisbane

During the World Science Festival Brisbane (15-24 March), XR Screen Futures Hub threw open the doors of our cutting-edge R&D spaces as part of the Labs Unlocked program. In a sold-out event, we unveiled the latest advancements in virtual production, motion capture, in-camera visual effects, and photogrammetry. Attendees were treated to hands-on demonstrations, offering a firsthand glimpse into the future of immersive media creation. Highlights of the event included the opportunity to interact with a motion-capture dinosaur, an exclusive pre-release screening of our recent research collaboration with the Jamieson Trauma Institute, and a rare behind-the-scenes tour of ScanCave, our state-of-the-art photogrammetry facility.

Additionally, visitors had the chance to walk alongside augmented reality dinosaurs, accessed via smartphones using QR codes. Developed in partnership with the Queensland Museum, these true-to-life digital models offer a scientifically accurate representation of these magnificent creatures at full scale. As one of just a few labs in Queensland invited to participate in the World Science Festival activities, XR Screen Futures was honoured to contribute to the festival’s central theme of uniting science and art to spark wonder and inspiration, providing an engaging experience for attendees and showcasing the seamless integration of technology and creativity in the pursuit of knowledge and innovation.
