Preparing for emergencies through virtual production

In 2024, the dynamic collaboration between XR Screen Futures Hub and the Jamieson Trauma Institute (JTI) continues to push the boundaries of healthcare in Queensland. Their latest project, the third instalment in a trilogy of short films, showcases an innovative exploration of potential responses to mass casualty incidents in Queensland circa 2030. Leveraging an experimental virtual production pipeline pioneered by the XR Screen Futures research team, the film unfolds across various locations meticulously crafted using in-camera visual effects at The Block, XR Screen Futures’ cutting-edge virtual production facility.
The launch of this cutting-edge work took place at a special screening event held at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in March 2024. At the official launch, Dr. Joe Carter and the late Dr. Sorin Oancea of XR Screen Futures were honoured with the prestigious 2024 Cliff Pollard Award for their remarkable contributions to the advancement of trauma care in Queensland.
