Background Professor Abby Cathcart is the Director of the QUT Academy of Learning and Teaching. She has worked at QUT since 2007 and was a Professor of Work and Organisation in QUT Business School until 2018 when she became a senior staff member in the Learning and Teaching Unit. She completed her PhD at Leicester University Management Centre (UK) in the field of organisational democracy and employee involvement. Her research on the John Lewis Partnership has received international attention.   Professor Cathcart has won multiple awards for her teaching including the inaugural David Gardiner Teacher of the Year Medal (2014) and three national Australian Awards for University Teaching - an Award for Excellence in the priority area of teaching large classes, a national Citation for her work in Assessment and Feedback and a Program Award for the Teaching Advantage Program. Professor Cathcart is Director of the QUT Academy of Learning and Teaching, a portfolio which includes Evaluations, the Higher Education Research Network, Expert Peer Review of Educational Practice, Awards and Grants, Professional learning, and recognition by the Higher Education Academy for QUT staff members. She has been a TEQSA Expert for the last 6 years, an assessor for AAUT, and QUT's Institutional member of CAULLT. Abby is a Principal Fellow of the HEA and leads the AdvanceHE Australasian Accredited Leaders Network. Since 2014 more than 1000 QUT staff members have successfully been recognised as HEA Fellows. Professor Cathcart co-leads the award winning  Teaching Advantage Program for doctoral students who want to build academic careers. She co designed and co-leads the Indigenous Perspectives in Learning and Teaching module for staff (with the QUT Carumba Institute), and developed the innovative specialist award Associate Fellow (Indigenous) of the HEA, which was accredited by AdvanceHE in 2019.  Abby has worked with Universities across the world to promote teaching quality, develop academic governance structures, and build professional recognition schemes. Most recently she has led development programs in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Thailand. Key Research interests
