We are pleased to share that Hengbo Guo, a visiting PhD student at QUT, has successfully defended his PhD dissertation in Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada, on July 23, 2025.
During his time at QUT, Hengbo worked under the supervision of Yang Liu in the WISE lab, contributing to cutting-edge research in mainstream anammox-based nitrogen removal processes. His work focused on enhancing the stability and efficiency of biological nitrogen removal systems under variable environmental conditions, with a strong emphasis on reactor optimization and microbial ecology.
Hengbo’s research has resulted in multiple publications in leading journals, and he has actively presented his work at international conferences such as Ozwater’25 and the IWA. His collaborative work at QUT has strengthened links between Canadian and Australian research institutions in the field of sustainable wastewater treatment.
