Ozwater'25 exhibition and conference (May 2025)

In May 2025, Hengbo Guo, a PhD candidate in Environmental Engineering, participated in the Ozwater’25 Exhibition and Conference—Australia’s premier water industry event, hosted by the Australian Water Association (AWA).

As part of the technical program, Hengbo gave an oral presentation on his PhD research titled:

“Strategy Optimization for Anammox Systems in Mainstream Wastewater: Fast Start-Up and Enhanced Stability under Environmental Fluctuations.”

This presentation highlighted novel strategies to improve the stability and resilience of anammox-based nitrogen removal systems when treating low-strength municipal wastewater, especially under variable temperature and loading conditions. His work contributes to the growing global interest in energy-efficient and sustainable biological treatment technologies.

“It was an incredible opportunity to share my research with experts and industry professionals from across Australia and beyond,” said Hengbo. “The discussions and feedback I received were truly valuable.”

The Ozwater’25 Conference brought together researchers, engineers, utility managers, policymakers, and solution providers to address current and future water challenges through innovation and collaboration.

Hengbo’s participation reflects his commitment to advancing practical and sustainable solutions in wastewater treatment and promoting the transition to low-energy, low-emission treatment technologies.
