Kannan is currently working on the hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of biomass for the production of hydrochar, its characterization, process optimization, the use of optimized hydrochar for pollutant removal and the techno-economic analysis of HTC process.
Research interest
- HTC of biomass
- Custom design of hydrochar
- Pollutant removal by adsorption
- Techno-economic analysis of HTC process
Current Project
I am currently working on the hydrochar production from rice straw and pine wood biomass using Sand-bath reactor and am involved in custom design process of hydrochar using catalytic and post-modification techniques. Moreover, hydrochar characterization is performed by advanced analytical techniques such as, TGA, DTGA, FTIR, XRD, SEM-EDX, Zetasizer and FAT200 contact angle analyzer. Techno-economic modelling of optimized HTC process is carried out by advanced process modeling software Aspen plus V9.
