Current project
Disasters are natural catastrophic events that cause damage to property and loss of lives. Highly reliable in-situ location information is critical for rescue efforts during and after disasters, but often such information is not easy or even possible to obtain. Currently information circulated in social media platforms—volunteer crowdsourcing information—provides location specific information about disasters. Albeit, the value and the applicability of such community generated information for disaster management is underestimated. Against this backdrop, study investigates the novel ways and methods of using community generated social media information to increase the efficiency of the disaster management practices. Advanced sentiment and attitude analysis tools and methods, decision tree algorithms, and GIS applications are used to achieve the designed research objectives.
