Prof Mark Horswill

    Professor Mark Horswill (School of Psychology) has published more articles on hazard perception than anyone else (Web of Science topic search: “hazard perception”, 20th Feb 2018). He has been researching drivers’ hazard perception since 1990 and he led the team that created the Queensland Government’s hazard perception test that is currently a compulsory part of driver licensing (completed by 44,000 drivers per year and part of the Graduated Licensing Scheme found to reduce novice crashes by 13% per year). He also was involved in the development of the hazard perception test used for licensing in the UK, which has been estimated to have prevented 8,535 “damage only” and 1,076 injury crashes per year since 2002. He has 132 publications, and has won $7,953,450 in external funding. He has been an investigator on ARC grants every year since 2004 and has held a full-time appointment at The University of Queensland School of Psychology since 2002.
