Professor Joanne Wood

Professor Joanne Wood has been recently awarded the H Barry Collin Research Medal and is one of only three female recipients to receive this award in its history.

Professor Wood has been acknowledged for her outstanding contributions to vision research, particularly in vision, ageing and driving. Professor Wood and the Vision and Driving Team at QUT have made a significant research contribution in the areas of visual impairment and driving and night-time driving and visibility, which has been translated into policies to influence road safety for all users. You can visit our Publications page to see our most recent articles in the area. A particular highlight of Prof Wood’s career has been the opportunity to collaborate with research colleagues from a range of disciplines both nationally and internationally, and to incorporate her research findings into effective and meaningful policies across the globe.

The award, named after Professor Barry H Collin, the former long-term editor of the journal, Clinical and Experimental Optometry, recognises contributions to optics, vision science or clinical optometry. Professor Wood, who is member of Optometry Australia’s Transport and Vision Standards Advisory Group, adds this to her distinguished 30 year career.
