The call is open for teams to enter the first orbital challenge!
Collaborate and complete to create awesome, innovative data visualisations and interactive experiences at The Sphere, QUT.
Orbital is a series of challenges for programmers, artists, researchers, and enthusiasts of all things digital to gather to create remarkable things and exhibit them on some of Australia’s best digital engagement venues.
The inaugural orbital event takes place at QUT Kelvin Grove, at The Sphere – a truly unique installation with huge potential to experiment with visualisations.
How does it work?
First you need to register and attend the Pitch Session on Saturday 15 May. At the Pitch Session:
- you will be given information about the tech specs, capabilities, hardware, and datasets available to use in the challenge;
- the THREE WORDS that must be included in each project will be announced;
- you will form teams; and
- develop a pitch to deliver to the selection committee.
Up to 10 teams of 2-5 people will be selected to move forward to the Development Phase.
During the Development Phase, teams will have access to additional resources including mentoring from the VISER team and testing. Teams will develop their concept to be delivered at Lift-off – the demonstration and judging event on the 7—8 July.
Judging and prizes
Lift-off will showcase all entries and give teams an opportunity to network with Brisbane’s industry and government leaders.
Entries will be judged by an expert panel of influencers in communications, gaming, and technology. Prizes will be awarded for “Best in Show”, “Best Application of AR”, “Best Use of Sound” and more.
More details for the Lift-off, including judges and prize categories, will be announced closer to the event.
