Bio and research.

Dr Sternes obtained his BBiotech (Hons I) and PhD in molecular biology and epigenetics from The University of Queensland, Australia. Since completion of his PhD studies in 2012, he has worked in three distinct post-doctoral research positions with a strong focus on bioinformatics analysis. Currently, he is a Bioinformatician and Research Fellow within the Translational Genomics Group at the Queensland University of Technology, Australia. In this group, his interest is in exploring the role of the microbiome in immune-mediated diseases, particularly for the inflammatory arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis. He is also a member of the Australian Translational Genomics Centre (ATGC) which provides a next-generation sequencing (NGS) cancer mutation screening service to Metro South Hospital and Health Service, Brisbane, Australia. Dr Sternes is highly experienced in microbial analysis, with numerous first- and second-author publications in the fields of microbial genomics, transcriptomics and metagenomics.
