Bio and research:

Mhairi obtained a BSc with Honours in Molecular Biology and MSc of Information Technology from the University of Glasgow UK. She spent 5 years as a Web and Database administrator at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Cambridge UK where she managed the Pfam, Rfam and MicroRNA websites.

Mhairi moved to Brisbane in 2005 and worked at the ARC Centre for Excellence in Bioinformatics at the Institute of Molecular Bioscience University of Queensland where she was a developer on the Visible Cell project. In 2007 she joined the newly formed Queensland Facility for Advanced Bioinformatics (QFAB) also based at IMB where she worked as a web and database developer and on Next-Generation projects in collaboration with CSIRO.

In 2011 Mhairi moved to the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute to work with Professor Matthew Brown and Associate Professor Paul Leo on next-generation exome projects. She managed the processing from the Institute’s four Illumina HiSeq 2000’s and was involved in monogenic and complex disease projects within the group.

In 2016 she moved with Matt Brown’s group to QUT where she is now involved in the analysis of cancer exome sequencing projects and in monogenic disease and whole genome sequencing based research.
