Bio and Research:
Professor Emma Duncan is an Eminent Staff Endocrinologist at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Professor of Medicine at University of Queensland, and Adjunct Professor at Queensland University of Technology. Since her undergraduate, Professor Duncan has been fascinated by the skeleton, and her basic and clinical research has focused particularly on bone disorders including osteoporosis and skeletal dysplasias. However, Professor Duncan has very broad and practical experience in gene mapping, including genetic epidemiology, linkage, genome-wide association studies, and massively parallel sequencing. Increasingly, she has been employing these skills to research other heritable endocrine disorders, with a special interest in the genetics of endocrine tumours, including those most heritable of all tumour types, phaeochromocytomas and paragangliomas. Professor Duncan is particularly interested in translating the genetic revolution into clinical practice.
