Bio and Research:

Dr David Pennisi joined the Translational Genomics Group, QUT at Translational Research Institute, in 2016 as a science writer. In this role, he is involved with the preparation and editing of research articles, reviews, grant applications and other documents for the group. David also writes content for, and helps manage, the Translational Genomics Group’s website. In addition, he has a role as project manager for some genomics-related projects in the Translational Genomics Group. David also has a number of years’ experience as a freelance editor with biomedical editing services, primarily editing scientific and medical articles from non-native English speakers.

Dr David Pennisi received postgraduate training in molecular genetics in the Department of Biochemistry, The University of Queensland, and was awarded a PhD in 2000, receiving a Dean’s Commendation, School of Postgraduate Studies, for outstanding PhD thesis. He then undertook postdoctoral training in the area of heart development in the laboratory of Prof. Takashi Mikawa, Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, Cornell University Medical College, New York, NY, USA. He then returned to conduct research on kidney and heart development at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience, The University of Queensland. From 2011-2014 he held an academic position in the School of Biomedical Sciences, The University of Queensland, running a research group focused on cardiovascular development and acting as coordinator for undergraduate and Honours courses.
