Bio and Research:
Dr David Pennisi acts as a project manager for the Translational Genomics Group’s involvement in the Queensland Genomics Health Alliance (QGHA). In this role, he coordinates and manages activities in the group and by external team members associated with the QGHA clinical demonstration project to incorporate genomics to the management of lung cancer in Queensland. He also acts as a science writer for the Genomics group, contributing to the preparation of research articles and grant applications.
Dr David Pennisi received postgraduate training in molecular genetics in the Department of Biochemistry, The University of Queensland, and was awarded a PhD in 2000, receiving a Dean’s Commendation, School of Postgraduate Studies, for outstanding PhD thesis. He then undertook postdoctoral training in the area of heart development in the laboratory of Prof. Takashi Mikawa, Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, Cornell University Medical College, New York, NY, USA. He then returned to conduct research on kidney and heart development at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience, The University of Queensland. From 2011-2014 he held an academic position in the School of Biomedical Sciences, The University of Queensland, running a research group focused on cardiovascular development and acting as coordinator for undergraduate and Honours courses. He joined the Translational Genomics Group, QUT at Translational Research Institute, in 2016 as a science writer.
