Project dates: 2022 - Ongoing
Soft Studio is an experimental design studio re-valuing post-consumer textile waste through creative design practice. Soft Studio was piloted in March and April 2022 in a Salvos Store window. Beginning with just one bale of post-consumer waste which was destined for overseas export, the project attempted to understand how methods of approaching consumer waste as a source of value, inspiration and regeneration can offer insight into broader transformations in the fashion system. Soft Studio worked with local designers Bianca and Kiara Bulley of BulleyBulley the label to find value in this ‘waste’ and as well as creating products, the project is interested in further understanding the feelings associated to dealing with pre-loved clothing.
The project is ongoing and will continue to think through the pragmatic, affective and creative challenges involved in dealing with waste.
