Luis Quijano is a PhD candidate in Fashion and Biotechnology at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and was awarded the Fulbright Future Scholarship as well as the Australian Government Research Training Program Stipend. His thesis is investigating bacterial cellulose and its contribution towards a circular fashion industry through design and biotechnology as an alternative leather for the textile industry in the context of small-medium enterprises and artisanal production. His research focuses on emerging biomaterials for the textile and apparel industry, sustainable fashion, circular economy, and research at the intersection of design and biotechnology.
