Transport systems are enablers of socio-economic activities and thereby part of the broad fabric of society. Sustainable transport systems require a holistic consideration of multiple interdependent aspects that affect performance and the environment. Hence, the Sustainable Transport System Laboratory studies an extensive range of problems that affect system performance and quality of service while explicitly considering interdependencies that affect the environment and society. Our goal is to help transform the way people and goods move to ensure transport and other social activities can continue in perpetuity without further degradation of the environmental system.

Our research streams include:

  • System of Systems Analysis
  • Multi-modal Transport Systems including MaaS and beyond
  • Active Transport including eMobility
  • Transport Network Modelling
  • Travel demand modelling and forecasting
  • Development, testing, and deployment of emerging technologies
  • Intelligent Transport Systems
  • Accessibility
  • Road Safety
  • Public Transport
