Jenny Smyth (EdD Candidate)

Jenny has been an early childhood teacher with Education Queensland for over twenty years. For some of this time she taught early years science to Preparatory and Year One students. In this role aligned with the Australian science curriculum she designed, taught and assessed a science teaching and learning program engaging to the Prep and Year One students. In this capacity she used her expertise to organise and in collaboration with others implement the school’s annual Science Fair including a science competition and ran lunch time science clubs for the early years’ students. Jenny’s MPhil (Education) investigated what knowledge of Science as a Human Endeavour do Preparatory students bring to their learning and how they represent that knowledge. Her current Doctor of Education research project aims to investigate through an inquiry-based conceptual framework what opportunities teacher scaffolded language rich dialogic pedagogy affords Preparatory Year students’ development of creative thinking skills.
