Dr Zhou Ding is an Assistant Professor in the School of System Design and Intelligent Manufacturing (SDIM) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). He is receiving PhD degree in Industrial Design, having commenced in 2018 at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. Dr Zhou is a cross-disciplinary researcher specialising in Industrial Design and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Education; he is also an associate member of the QUT STEM Education Research Group. Graduating with a B.A. and M.A. in Industrial Design, Dr Zhou was an Associate Professor in Industrial Design with Nanjing University of the Arts, China, from 2009 to 2018. In 2012, he was a bilingual visiting staff member at the University of Virginia, US. From 2014 to 2015, he worked as a visiting scholar at the School of Design Innovation, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Instead of machine-centred tendency, Dr Zhou always thinks in terms of how people perceive technology’s usefulness. As he is experienced in engaging STEM/New Engineering Education (NEE) knowledge transfer in university-level education, his teaching can cultivate students’ STEM/NEE literacy – an ability to identify, apply, and integrate concepts from related disciplines to understand complex problems and innovate to solve them. Dr Zhou has authored nearly twenty peer-rereviewed scientific publications internationally and domestically.
