QUT Leads the Way in Sport Science Research: SPRING Symposium 2024 Celebrates Unprecedented Success
The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) cemented its position as a leader in sport science research with the successful running of the 2024 SPRING Symposium, held on 7 Sep 2024. The event brought together almost 100 attendees, including researchers, industry professionals, and students, to explore the latest advancements in sport and exercise science.
The Symposium, organised by the QUT Skill, Sport Performance Research, and Injury Group (SPRING), featured a comprehensive program that included keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive break out sessions. The opening keynote presentation by 1988 Olympic gold medalist Duncan Armstrong OAM OLY (pictured) discussed the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the opportunities for practitioners leading to the Brisbane 2032 Games.
The event provided a seamless experience for attendees to engage with thought leaders in the field. The Symposium was also successful in highlighting the collaboration between academic researchers and industry practitioners, underscoring QUT’s commitment to advancing sport science through partnership and innovation. This included presentations from QUT SPRING PhD students who are working with Australian Olympic and Paralympic Athletes from the Queensland Academy of Sport and the silver medal winning Stingers from Water Polo Australia. These sessions exemplified the event’s focus on addressing real-world challenges in sport, reflecting QUT’s role as a hub for impactful research.
The event also highlighted QUT’s expertise in clinical exercise science with presentations from QUT staff and alumni on motor neurone disease, cerebral palsy and women’s health. The positive feedback from attendees emphasised the Symposium’s success in not only disseminating knowledge but also in building a community of professionals dedicated to elevating exercise and sport science.
QUT’s SPRING Symposium 2024 has once again demonstrated the university’s leadership in the field of exercise and sport science, setting the stage for continued advancements and collaborations that will shape the future of athletic performance and health.
