PhD Research Topic:
An Urban Road Network Resilience Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction: The Case of South East Queensland
PhD Research Summary:
The PhD study aims to utilise social media platforms as the new crowdsourcing big data source to assess the accessibility of hospitals depending on hospitals’ capacity and travel time that is affected by disastrous events causing road network performance loss including road closures. The study develops an urban road network resilience framework for disaster risk reduction (URNET-DRR). The framework adopts qualitative research methods to create a dataset, conducts spatial and quantitative analyses to create an empirical model to assess the road closure probabilities at the aftermath of flooding events. Finally, the study will be put in a test in South East Queensland region to develop an accessibility model for Metro South Hospitals of Brisbane, which is a highly flood prone area.
