PhD Research Topic:
Mapping Urban Heat Exposure Locations in Australian Cities through Remote Sensing and Machine Learning Models
PhD Research Summary:
More and more people are exposed to extreme heat, especially in urban areas, due to global warming and urban heat island effects. Urban heat exposure is associated with a significant impact on population health, which leads to consistent increases in the Australian health and economic burden. Urban heat exposure location maps are critical for solving this problem because they can help urban planning departments grasp the heat exposure problems in cities and scientific decision-making. Despite this, there is a lack of research mapping urban heat exposure locations in Australia. This PhD study will focus on developing novel methods, by using remote sensing and machine learning models, to locate and predict where harmful heat is concentrated within urban areas and targeted strategies to reduce the heat vulnerability of Australia’s urban residents.
