In November 2025, our QUT Urban AI Hub team embarked on a week-long academic visit to Beijing, engaging with four of China’s most prestigious research institutions. Each university brought distinct expertise to the conversation – from environmental planning and circular economy to climate modeling and architectural innovation. What emerged was a rich tapestry of perspectives on how artificial intelligence can be harnessed responsibly to address the complex challenges facing rapidly urbanizing regions. This wasn’t just about presenting our research; it was about learning, connecting, and exploring collaborative pathways toward more sustainable and intelligent cities.
