Kenan Degirmenci is a Lecturer in the School of Information Systems and part of the Service Science Program. Further, he is the Deputy Academic Lead in Learning & Teaching and the Subject Area Coordinator of the Bachelor of Information Technology course. He received a Doctor of Economics (Dr. rer. pol.) from Leibniz University Hannover in Germany. His research focus is on analysing how digital innovation transforms organisations to improve decision making. More specifically, he focuses on four aspects: (1) business analysis and decision modelling to understand and automate decision making, (2) quantitative and qualitative research methods to evaluate decision making, (3) digital solutions to motivate decision making for sustainable behaviour change, and (4) psychometric analysis to improve information security and privacy decisions. For this, he analyses the development and impact of disruptive technologies including AI, blockchain, and IoT from an organisational and societal perspective.

He is the Deputy Program Lead of the Behavioural Data Governance Program at the Centre for Behavioural Economics, Society and Technology (BEST), and an active core member of the Smart City Lab. Currently, he is working on a research project entitled "Local climate research to enable sustainable development" funded by the Queensland Government Department of State Development. His prior projects include research on a project funded by the Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) entitled "Australia-Brazil Smart City Research and Practice Forum", and an IFE Catapult project entitled "Mitigating urban heat", in which an IoT-enabled wireless sensor network was implemented for environmental monitoring in Hamilton, QLD. Further prior projects include an ARC Discovery Grant funded project entitled "Developing a theory of green information systems" during his time as a postdoctoral research fellow, and a project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy entitled "Showcase electric mobility" during his time as a doctoral student at the University of Hannover in Germany in cooperation with industry partner Volkswagen.
