Measuring soil Carbon in grazing systems using non-destructive flux techniques

The purpose of this project is to measure small changes in soil organic carbon (SOC) in grazing systems over large areas using non-destructive flux techniques. The deployment of flux towers and data collection associated with grazing management will form the basis of predictive models that may have commercial value as decision support tools for producers who are looking at entering into the carbon market.

Flux towers (QUT will deploy 6 towers) will be used to access changes in SOC in response to grazing management. Pasture production data in combination with remote sensing and flux towers provides the required data to develop predictive models that can be used across diverse soil types.
